Voices in Solidarity Festival

August 30 @ 11:00 am
Free

Celebrate the close of summer with Opera Baltimore on Sunday, August 30th, for our Voices in Solidarity Festival in partnership with the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, the Jewish Museum of Maryland, and the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House & Museum. Through music, history, and conversation, this festival celebrates the rich diversity, traditions, and stories embedded within and between Baltimore’s Black and Jewish communities.

During the free daytime celebration, enjoy pop-up performances, connect with Black and Jewish owned businesses and community leaders from across Baltimore, and take a walking tour of Jonestown. This portion of the festival will be hosted by the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House & Museum, with walking tours connecting key historic sites between the Reginald F. Lewis Museum and Jewish Museum of Maryland.

The celebration will continue into the late afternoon and early evening at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, with a special reception and concert featuring baritone Daniel Rich and soprano Sara Duchovnay. The program will also include a special display of artifacts from the collections of both the Lewis Museum and the Jewish Museum, exploring the cultural intersections of Baltimore’s Black and Jewish communities.

This event is part of Voices in Solidarity: Baltimore’s Black and Jewish Operatic History, a place-based initiative highlighting the deeply intertwined histories of the city’s Black and Jewish communities through music, conversation, and education. Voices in Solidarity is conducted by Opera Baltimore in partnership with the Jewish Museum of Maryland and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, and is generously supported by the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation, the David and Barbara B. Hirschhorn Foundation, and State funds from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.
