Grand Opening Celebration Event: Illustration Workshop with Shadra Strickland


In celebration of the Grand Opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington, DC, join award-winning illustrator Shadra Strickland for storytime of the book Bird, illustrated by Strickland. Participants will receive a free commemorative poster of NMAAHC, while supplies last. A drawing workshop with the artist follows. Children will illustrate their own personal stories after listening to this tale about a young boy facing family struggles. The book is available for purchase in the museum shop. Strickland's awards include an NAACP Image Award and a Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award.
