The Power of An Image: The Voice of a Community Artist Talk With Devin Allen and Fellow Activists

Meet Devin Allen, the photographer whose photographs of the protests in Baltimore went viral and ultimately graced the cover of TIME magazine in May 2015. Allen will describe his experiences as a protester on the ground following the death of Freddie Gray. He is joined by his peers, including activists Kwame Rose and Malacka Reed. The day is dedicated to conversation and critical thought to promote positive solutions for uplifting Baltimore. Components include poetry, a DJ spinning music with a theme of social change, and opportunities to explore Allen’s exhibit with the artist in a meet-and-greet following the talk. An Instagram challenge will be announced to win a copy of the TIME magazine issue, autographed by Allen. Admission is pay-what-you-would-like.

This program is in conjunction with Allen's first solo show, Devin Allen: Awakenings, In a New Light, on view July 10 - December 7, 2015 and sponsored by PNC. The exhibition also debuts a new community space inside the museum, Lewis Now.
